Show Description:

Greater Tuna is the first in a series of 4 comedic plays (followed by A Tuna Christmas, Red, White and Tuna and Tuna Does Vegas), each set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas, the “third-smallest” town in the state. The plays are at once an affectionate comment on small-town, Southern life and attitudes but also a withering satire of same. Of the four plays, Greater Tuna is the darkest in tone. The plays are notable in that two men play the entire cast of over twenty eccentric characters of both genders and various ages.

Cast:

Kris Longwell - Kris is having a hard time believing he is actually in an honest-to-God production of Greater Tuna. Being born and raised in Texas, Greater Tuna is as much a part of the culture down there as is football, Sunday school and chicken fried steak. In fact, in certain parts, Greater Tuna is the culture. This is gonna be fun….it is, it is. Kris’ recent theater credits: At Villagers Theatre: The Baker in Into the Wood, Harold Hill in Music Man, Chandebise/Posch in A Flea in Her Ear, Panch in Spelling Bee, Jessep in A Few Good Men (Perry Award Winner). Other credits: John in CorWell’s production of Oleanna (Perry Award Nom), Booth in EVP’s Assassins, Harry in Alliance Rep’s Love Song and Walt in Spilling Stuff & Breaking Things at Luna Stage. Also at Villagers: Felix in The Odd Couple, Mortimer in Arsenic & Old Lace and Gene in Sideman. Other credits: Cats in Hamburg, Germany, A Chorus Line in Atlantic City and Jupiter Theatre. Kris studied at AMDA and HB Studios in NYC and is a member of Alliance Rep. Thanks to Linda, Mike, and Thomas for bringing this dream to life. And of course, to my co-star – Wesley Loon – the reason for everything good in my life – well, family and friends, too. And Doris.

Wesley Loon - Wesley is absolutely tickled tuna pink to be involved in this production of Greater Tuna. Wesley is a graduate of American Musical and Dramatic Academy and has performed professional in several regional theatres as well sailing the high seas of Caribbean and the Hawaiian islands. Most recently, Wesley has treaded the boards of the Villagers Theatre as Marcellus Washburn in Music Man, Don Carlos Homenides De Histangua in A Flea in Her Ear and J.P. Morgan in Ragtime. Wesley also played the role of Edna Turnblad in the Playhouse 22 production of Hairspray which earned him a Perry nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. Thanks to Linda, Mike and Thomas for this incredible opportunity. And thanks to my Texas family for providing the years of training needed to develop a quintessential Texas accent. Finally, thanks to Kris for the encouragement and making me laugh even when he’s not playing Didi Snavely.
